Recently, a new church was started among former Hindus and Sikhs in Sunnyvale, CA. It began with a woman named Geeta who went to see a doctor because she was very ill and depressed. When she did not respond to treatment, her physician suggested that perhaps the peace Geeta was seeking was more spiritual than physical. He advised that she visit a local Catholic church and simply pray. So Geeta prayed at the church but peace was still elusive. She knew something was still not right. Geeta phoned Harban Singh, a recent Sikh convert, who called another friend, Yunas Masih, for prayer.
Since I was visiting Yunas, he asked me to pray for Geeta, which I did. Still she had no real peace. I arranged to meet with Geeta and two other Sikhs the next day. As I shared the Gospel, God opened their eyes, and all three found real peace as they accepted Jesus Christ to be their Savior.
A few weeks later, on September 27, 2009, this small group of new Christians became the nucleus of a new church in Sunnyvale, CA which is being called the Punjabi/Hindi Fellowship. We began meeting in the home of new believers, and now, with 15 attending, we have already outgrown our first meeting place.
Most Sikhs and Hindus in the Bay Area are from India, with the epicenter of this population living in two Bay Area counties: Santa Clara County and Alameda County. The largest number live in Northern California, especially in Yuba City, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Sacramento.
After serving for 17 years in Canada, planting a church among the Sikhs/ Hindus and raising up leaders there, we are now called to reach Punjabi/Hindi speaking Sikhs and Hindus in Northern California. Our vision is to evangelize Sikhs and Hindus in Northern California, and from that harvest, to plant indigenous bilingual Punjabi/Hindi speaking churches.

Urgent Prayer Requests:

  • Jehovah’s Witnesses have a strong presence in the Sikh community and have been here for years.
  • We have been witnessing to the newly arrived Sikhs but they are having difficulty with the concept of salvation by grace and not works.
  • Some of our Hindu and Sikh friends still have idols and pictures of gurus in their homes and some are struggling with family relationships.
  • We need to find a permanent place to worship.
  • We need more Punjabi and Hindi whole Bibles and discipleship materials.
  • Our personal financial support needs to increase as it is much more expensive to live in the Bay Area.

One out of every seven people in the world lives in India. If we can effectively reach them here in the US they will carry the good news back to India!
