Missionary Gospel Fellowship began in 1939 from the vision of Paul J. Pietsch, a former Federal Probation Officer, who found an unfilled need in bringing Jesus Christ to migrant farm laborers arriving in California from dust bowl states.

Mr. Pietsch and five Christian businessmen incorporated MGF on October 27, 1942, organizing the work as an independent, non-denominational mission.

In the years since incorporation, as the ethnicity of migrant farm workers changed, MGF workers have reached many other peoples. Today MGF missionaries are bringing Christ to Hispanics, Asiatics, West Indians, plus Native Americans, isolated rural populations, cults, and inner city ethnic groups through evangelism and discipleship. Although the ministries are greatly varied, the focus of MGF continues on today.

Jay Hyatt Served from 2003 to Jay Hyatt is the current MGF General Director. Jay and Lu An Hyatt left secular jobs after 30 years to enter full-time Christian service. Jay became General Director and Lu Ann uses her gift of hospitality in the mission headquarters. Jack Harvey Served from 1996 to 2003 During Jack Harvey's time as General Director, MGF began a sister mission, MGF of Canada. MGF was also blessed with the addition of Christoffersen Haus during this time. Dollie compiled and edited, "Grapes of Glory," a chronicle of MGF. Richard Morris Served from 1993 to 1994 Richard Morris stepped in as MGF Director when Bill Pietsch's health issues did not allow him to serve. Richard continues serving in ministry teaching and training others in Internet evangelism and discipleship traveling throughout the world. Bill Pietsch Served from 1987 to 1996 Bill Pietsch, a man of dedication and prayer, came home from serving with TEAM in Pakistan just as the Pratts felt the need to step down from serving as MGF's General Director. Bill went home to be with His Lord and Savior March 6, 2007. Al Pratt Served from 1974 to 1986 Al & Betty Pratt reluctantly left their ministry in Hawaii so Al could become the General Director of MGF. Al is credited with bringing a family atmosphere to the mission. Betty continues in ministry and working in the MGF office four hours a day. Max Kronquest Served from 1949 to 1974 Max Kronquest led the mission from 27 workers to 70. He expanded MGF's local radio ministry, which he continued to manage after he "retired." His wife Vanita was very involved in the layout and editing of the MGF Fellowship Bulletin. Elmer Josephson Served from 1947 to 1948 Elmer Josephson was asked to serve as interim director for Migrant Missionary Fellowship (later MGF). He returned to ministry in the Midwest and became the director of Youth for Christ in Wichita, KS. Paul Pietsch Served from 1939 to 1947 Paul Pietsch had a passion to reach the migrant labor camps. He learned of the need among migrant families and, following the Lord's leading, began MGF.
